5 Stars because this book is just that good and it made me feel so many emotions and many of them simultaneously. I had tears at a few points. This is the second book I've read by this author. This is her debut book. She has serious talent.

This is a cathartic story of the pain of loss, the courage to love again and a love that grows beyond boundaries set by the participants. It is a journey. One lesson learned as you grow older -- love will happen in its' own time. You can't pick when, how, and most usually who. It will be. This is the perfect story to illustrate this concept.

So much to like about this book, but I'll only outline a few:
1 -- Dan: We have a man who is grieving the loss of the love of his life. He can't remember a day he didn't love Millie. Just what the hell is he supposed to do now? Millie knew he would feel this way so she made a plan. She wants him to go home. Go back where he grew up, where their love first started and build them a home. Do everything they planned to do. Fulfill their together dreams.

2 -- Stacy: We have a best friend. She was Dan's best friend before she was Millie's, but once Millie came along, Dan took a backseat. Dan and Stacy care for each other as each is the keeper of the others childhood memories. Millie made Stacy promise to help Dan get through his grief. She made Stacy promise to care for him like she has done in the past.

Dan and Stacy are the two halves of a whole. They have each traveled separate paths that have brought them to this together place. This is their story. It is absolutely wonderful.

3 -- The weaving of words to put together this story is just remarkable. You rarely find this in any author, let alone a self-pub'd debut. I could chalk it up to a flukey first book that had been edited and re-edited before publish, if I hadn't read another by this author. Her second book is just as well written and has a completely different tone. Almost like the story burst on the page dragging the author behind. It is hard to describe for me -- I lack poetry in my words. If you read it, you'll know exactly what I mean.

Is there anything I didn't like about this story?
Not really. I could list everything I loved, but the list would be so long you'd just skim over it. This story speaks to anyone who has ever traveled the grief train. The journey seems endless until one day you wake up and it is over. Just over. To all those people who have helped someone with this journey -- this book will speak to your heart.

I don't know what it is about Donna Sturgeon. This is her beginning, but it will not be the end for us. She is an awesome talent and I'm a serious fan. I can't wait to see what she'll come up with next. Such promise. I know I'm gushing, but wanted to get your attention on this book, this author. I hope I haven't failed. A damned shame - that.

Just think. As good as this is, it is her first work. She can only get better. I love it!

Happy Reading!

Millie Rose Donna Sturgeon 9781937216009 Books Reviews

Okay, this is probably considered chick lit and I'm a guy, but every once in a while I like to read a good love story rather than my usual horror, action-adventure, murder mystery themes. I'm glad I decided upon this book after reading the description. I was drawn in by the story of Dan, Millie and Stacy. Many might think that Dan fell for Stacy too soon after Millie's death. However, I think the author does a fine job of getting around this by describing how Dan and Stacy knew each other all their lives and probably were in love with each other for a long time, never admitting it to themselves. The author did a wonderful job of describing the loss of a true love and in imparting Dan's grief with the loss of his Millie. The author also did well describing the fractured love between Stacy and Chase. How many of us actually know people like this, involved in horrible relationships, but unwilling or hesitant to let it go? The other characters in the book were well developed also and believable. My only disappointment is that I find myself becoming jealous of Dan, never having personally known such great women as Millie or Stacy. But then again, they are fictional creations.
Wow! I just didn't think this book was going to be THIS good! I mean, I thought it would be okay...but I didn't expect it to be wonderful! I laughed and I cried and I felt so much more. The characters, you really ache for what they lost and smile with them at what they gain. I never found myself boared with this book...it was simply to great a book to be anything but overcome with emotion. Millie had such an impact on Dan and Stacy's life that it really touches a person. And then for Millie and Dan to find out that after a lifetime of being friends that there was so much more to their relationship than that. But then, the feelings that come with it are understandable. Stacy and Dan find themselves with this undeniable love between them but with that comes guilt. How to love someone that was so close to your best friend...was your best friends husband...or your wifes best friend. How to separate that love from what you had with the person that died. I'm just overwhelmed with this story...the saddness but the love at the end...it was just simple perfect. I hope to read more stories from this author soon.
I don't normally write reviews. I never know what to say. I'm in the middle of this book and can't put it down. I read this during my train ride and don't like getting to my stop. It means I have to stop reading. I've thought about this book since the first couple sentences. It's taken over my mind, wondering what happens.

This book is heartwrenching. You feel for Dan, the main character, and Stacy, Millie's Best Friend and Dan's good fried. The author found a way to take you through the mind of this guy and you're rooting for him. You want to see him get better, you want him to find love, you just want him to feel.

Sometimes when you're reading a book you want to read it again. Let's go on the adventure again! I don't think I'll be reading this book again, my heart can't take it. I've held my breathe when something bad happened and I smiled when something good happened.

This book is about a man who has lost his wife from cancer. He learns to heal with his best friend, even though he doesn't want to. He moves away from the business and house he lived in with his wife. He runs away from feeling and finds a way to heal through his good friend, Stacy, and a couple old & new (!) friends.
